Signs of Poor Duct Sealing and Insulation
These are some of the more common signs that point to leaking air ducts. If you are having issues maintaining consistent indoor temperatures or if you continue to struggle with high energy bills, we recommend having your home checked for leaking air ducts. A professional duct inspection will locate the source of your energy efficiency problem and help in determining the most accurate solution for your home.
What Should My Ductwork Look Like if it is Sealed?
It is important to seal every connection, collar, high pressure point, and ceiling boot in order to have a well sealed duct system. In order to seal a duct connection or duct collar properly, the outer liner must be pulled back, exposing the sheet metal. A generous amount of duct mastic is applied and then a large zip tie is placed where the plastic liner meets the collar to hold the duct in place. Duct mastic is then applied again around the zip tie and the outer liner is pulled back on, ensuring the duct insulation covers all of the sheetmetal exposed ductwork to properly insulate it! And that’s how an “Ideal” duct sealing job is completed the right way!
